Media In Politics

Image
News media plays a critical role in today's political events and can have a huge impact on the average voter or citizens opinions surrounding politics. Yet, no matter what media you consume there is always a bias present even when the source attempts to be objective. Most news stations and sources lean either left or right with only some being very centrist and objective. Just like our president, the Republican voters of our country seem to distrust "mainstream news media." Only 14% of Republicans surveyed believe that mainstream media is moral and only 18% of them believe that it protects democracy in our country. This is a contrast to when Republicans are asked about their own media sources that they most often consume news from. We can infer that the news sources they are reading or watching lean more conservatively. When these citizens are fed media with a point of view that aligns better to their own beliefs they understandably tend to trust it more and bel...

Political Parties

As I explore political structures in our government another important thing to address would be parties and the role they play. Simply put, a political party is a group of like-minded voters that aim to support and eventually elect a candidate who will support their chosen policies. Like any system a two-party style has pros and cons, however, one advantage of having these parties is it allows the common voter to easily identify a possible candidate's agenda or stance. Our current president Donald Trump, a candidate of the Republican party, recently signed in a massive tax overhaul that substantially change...

Interest Groups

They do this by raising public awareness on issues, lobbying for preferred legislation, giving monetary support to candidates and advertising on public and social media. One interest group I thought was interesting and had seen around before is Green Peace( https://www.greenpeace.org ). They are a well known environmentally friendly interest group that pushes "green" policies and works hard to maintain the natural world. Heres a screenshot from their website that contains their mission, goals, and call to action: In the first segment alone it is easy to that this interest group heavily supports environmentally friendly initiatives and is heavily opposed to the exploitation of the earth and its people. Based on this and the next two paragraphs surrounding the current president it can be assumed that this group is de...
